Luxury Custom Home, Los Angeles
A ground-up home built around a floating staircase, walls of glass and a pool-side great room.

The staircase is the whole project in miniature. It cantilevers from a concealed steel stringer buried in the wall, which meant the structure had to be set, surveyed and signed off long before anyone saw a tread. There is no second chance at a detail like that.
Herringbone oak runs continuously from the entry through the great room to the pool terrace threshold, with the pattern set out from the centreline of the glazed opening so the joints align with the mullions. Slow to lay, invisible when done right, immediately obvious when done wrong.
